Sailing conditions in the Split sailing region
The Split sailing region has some of the most favorable sailing conditions that are enjoyed both by the sailors, and the tourists.
Since, the Split sailing region is situated on the Adriatic Coast of Croatia, the type of winds that blow here differ from each other. The types of wind that blow near the Split sailing regions are:
Bura
Generally, the Bura wind blows from the north to the north-eastern region along the Adriatic coast. The winds of Bura are harsh, cold, and dry. It is more common in the winter season, and these winds usually blow in gusts.
The winds of Bura make sailing a little bit complicated but because this type of wind is more prominent during the winter season, your summer sailing holidays are guaranteed to be weather perfect.
Jugo
Jugo is characterized as a south-eastern wind. The wind is warm and dry. It is attended by dense dark clouds and rain-filled storms. The winds of Jugo aren’t of very high pressure, but they raise the level of the waves to a significant level. Hence, this makes sailing hard.
Maestral
Maestral wind is a cold wind and is known as “the good wind” among many sailors. It blows from the northwest region along the Adriatic Coast. It typically reduces the great heat during summer in the Adriatic Coast and is accompanied by lovely weather. Thus, this wind is optimal for sailing holidays.
Tramontana
Like, Maestral wind, the winds Tramontana are also cool. These winds blow from the northern part of the coast.
Grego Levante
The winds of Grego are dry that bring clear, and cold weather. It is a east-northeastern wind that blows along the coast during winter time.
Levant
These winds are cold and are an easterly wind. They are accompanied by cold, and rainy weather.
Oštro
Oštro is a pure southern wind, characterized by great strength but with relatively short duration. It is a warm and humid wind. It is mostly a sharp transitional phase between wind Jugo and Lebić.
Lebić
Lebić is a short wind and it is often blowing after Jugo. It can be strong and is then called a Lebićada. If a new cloud appears in the west during the blowing of the Lebic with clear or partly cloudy skies in the west, the Lebic will fall and the wind will turn south again. This is an almost certain sign of the arrival of another cyclone.
