Suppose you have only one week and want to see and experience as much as possible with your own or chartered yacht in these seven days. The best starting point is our charter base from the D Marin Marina Mandalina in Šibenik or Tribunj, central Adria.
Enjoy a week of sun, sea, and relaxation on a charter yacht in Croatia, and seize the opportunity to explore Krka National Park. This journey is your key to discovering and experiencing Croatia's bountiful and diverse natural beauty! Embark on a unique adventure as you sail north, not on the open sea, but in freshwater. This extraordinary journey takes you from the Krka to Lake Prokljansko and onwards to the Krka waterfalls. It's a one-of-a-kind experience that only a few can boast of, offering a thrilling twist to your usual boating escapades! Krka National Park is undoubtedly a treasure worth seeing. This blog post describes how to get there and what to see and do in one of Croatia's most stunning natural areas.
Choosing a boat journey, you'll find the most convenient entrance through Skradin. Starting from our charter base in Šibenik, you'll pass the port side channel of Sv. Ante, which offers a breathtaking view as you head northwest. As you sail upstream on the Krka River, you'll be greeted by the stunning Prokljansko Lake and the exquisite Krka Waterfalls. After a half-hour journey, you'll reach a bridge spanning the Krka, connecting Šibenik with Zaton. With a height of at least 27 meters, this bridge is suitable for most charter (sailing) yachts, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable journey.
When travelling on the Krka, it's important to remember that there is a speed limit and that it is a right-hand drive. If you are on a chartered motor yacht, please be cautious and refrain from speeding.
The maximum speed allowed on the Krka River, which is navigable until Skradin, is only five knots!
This is due to mussel farms along the river banks requiring calm water. Additionally, the right-hand traffic rule applies throughout the area.
After passing through the bridge, the river branches off to the northeast on the starboard side. Following the Šibenik Channel and sailing eight nautical miles from Šibenik through the stunning narrow Krka riverbed and Prokljan Lake, you will arrive at Skradin.
ACI Marina Skradin, one of the most beautiful marinas in Croatia, offers a safe berth for your yacht or catamaran. It is part of the ACI (Adriatic Croatia International Club) network of marinas along the Croatian coast. The marina boasts 200 berths that accommodate boats up to 25 meters long. It provides essential facilities such as electricity and water connections, a fuel station, sanitary facilities, and a restaurant. Located in the historic town of Skradin, known for its Venetian architecture and as the gateway to the Krka National Park, the marina is a perfect starting point for your exploration.
The location of Skradin and the Krka National Park allows boaters from the sea to visit the national park on the mainland. Skradin is the furthest point for sailing so that boaters can leave their boats in the marina or at the anchorage. From Skradin town, you can take a boat ride to the Krka Waterfalls.
Visitors can only use the official ferry boats operated by the National Park that depart from a nearby pier to travel further upstream. These boats take visitors to the famous and heavily visited Skradinski Buk waterfall in the Krka National Park. The cost of transportation with these boats is included in the price of the National Park entrance tickets.
These boats run frequently and provide a scenic introduction to the park. Alternatively, boaters can envision the opportunity to explore the 3.4 km pedestrian path from Skradin to Skradinski buk after a day of sailing. This picturesque route leads through a serene canyon, offering stunning vistas of the flowing river and the verdant cliffs adorned with pines and cypresses. Moreover, this trail also serves as the shortest bike route in the national park at 8.6 km long. Embark from Skradin, follow the Krka River upstream, and revel in the beauty of Skradinski buk before making your way back to Skradin. This captivating journey promises an unforgettable experience amidst the natural splendour.
Main Attractions:
Skradinski Buk is the largest and most famous waterfall in the park. It is made up of travertine cascades, islands, and lakes. The cascading waters and lush surroundings make it a must-see attraction. Visitors can swim in designated areas, making it a perfect spot to cool off.
Boat trips are organized from Skradinski Buk through the emerald-green canyon of the Krka River. There are two boat trips from Skradinski buk.
The first is a two-hour trip to the island of Visovac, which includes a half-hour guided tour. Visovac Island is one of Croatia's most important natural and cultural sites. You will visit the Franciscan monastery of Our Lady of Mercy and the church of Our Lady of Visovac, built on the island in 1445.
These buildings blend beautifully into Visovac Lake's landscape, creating a harmonious combination of architecture and nature that offers a unique aesthetic experience.
The second option is a four-hour trip to the Roski Waterfall. This trip includes a half-hour stop at Visovac to enjoy the sightseeing and a free one-and-a-half-hour tour of the Roški Waterfall. The Roški Slap Waterfall, also known as the spacious waterfall, stands at 22.5 meters. It consists of the main waterfall, numerous branches, cascades, and tufa islands. The main waterfall is situated where the Krka River plunges into Visovac Lake from a height of fifteen meters. It is preceded by parallel waterfalls known as "Necklaces."
Roški Slap is another breathtaking waterfall, less crowded but equally beautiful, and is famous for its peaceful surroundings and picturesque views.
The most favourable time to experience the beauty of Krka Waterfalls National Park is from May to September. This period offers tranquil weather and serene sea conditions, allowing for delightful exploration. Expect clear, sunny skies and mild, refreshing breezes, creating an idyllic setting for sailing and discovering the enchanting waterfalls.
